How Nueva uses testing
Founded in 1967, Nueva is a preK–12 independent school for gifted learners serving roughly 930 students across campuses in Hillsborough and San Mateo, with a 6.5:1 student-teacher ratio and the motto 'Learn by Doing, Learn by Caring.'
Because the school is built for gifted learners, Nueva asks families to submit an individually administered cognitive test — the WPPSI-IV for its youngest applicants, the WISC-V for older children — and looks for results within a particular target range. Round I vs. Round II: the timing decision
Nueva runs two application rounds, and the choice between them is really a choice about your child's testing age.
Round I
- Child must be at least 3 years 10 months when tested
- WPPSI-IV for pre-kindergarten applicants

Round II

A few months of development matters more at age four than at any later point in schooling. If your child sits just past the minimum age, weigh Round II seriously — the later deadline exists precisely for this reason.
